Lilacs and kittens

In the morning we often see two little kittens exploring our doorstep. A dozen lilac bushes at the back of our yard perfume the air. These are the delights of spring.

The indoor cats love to be outdoors in this season, too. Two of them spend time with the outdoor cats; Pookie considers himself part of our family and doesn’t have much use for cats.

The trees that surround our yard are fully leafed out, giving us a privacy screen. They are heavily populated by songbirds, some of whom we hear more than we see. Rhubarb is growing, as is everything else.

The winter doldrums, caused by short hours of sunshine, have disappeared. Now we have more than 16 hours between sunrise and sunset and even we older folks feel energized.

We may complain about winter, but without winter we would never know the joys of springtime in Saskatchewan.
