Forty-five years a Holdeman

My wife and I were married August 1, 1970 and immediately began to look for a church home. Neither of us were attached to any denomination at the time we were married.

Our search took us to many different churches in a number of towns, cities and provinces. We met a lot of fine people, but no place that felt like a spiritual home for our family. The search came to an end 45 years ago, on February 11, 1979 when we were baptized and became members of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite.

A song that we have often heard our youth group sing has a chorus that goes something like this:

I’ve found a home and a family, a place I belong . . . I’ve found it, I’ve found it, I found what I was looking for.

(I’m quoting this from memory and don’t know all the words of the chorus. I think the song writer is Loren Burns.)

That describes how we still feel after 45 years, and we are thankful that there are now three generations of our family who call this church their spiritual home.

  1. I’m so thankful you found the church, grandpa. I probably wouldn’t be where I am today if you hadn’t joined…

I'd love to hear what you think about this. Please leave a comment.
