Things I am still learning

  1. In high school my nickname was Professor, evidence that I was a know-it-all even then. That’s not the same thing as being wise.
  2. When I am mistaken, or have a bad attitude, the most effective reproof has come in the form of an offhand remark or question. I need to learn how to do that.
  3. In an argument, the person who talks the loudest is usually the one who is wrong.
  4. As is the one who has to have the last word.
  5. The person who sees things differently than I do is not necessarily wrong. He may be looking at things from a different perspective and seeing something that is hidden from my view.
  6. A fanatic is someone who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject. -Winston Churchill.
  7. A fanatic is a man who does what the good Lord would do if he knew the facts of the situation. – Finley Peter Dunne.
  8. We make an idol of the truth itself; for truth without love is not God, but his image. – Blaise Pascal.
  9. A little said, and truly said,
    Can greater joy impart
Than hosts of words that reach the head
    But never touch the heart.
    – author unknown
  10. And, from the Bible, the last word: “For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.” – James 1:20.
