August 1, 1970, St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Robert Goodnough and Christine Vance stood side by side, answered questions posed by Rev. Kenneth Vickers and were pronounced husband and wife.
Today we go by Bob and Chris and marvel at the journey. We have lived in five provinces of Canada, and attended many different churches in the early years of our marriage. We have now been members of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite for 45 years and we came back to Saskatchewan 26 years ago.
Our only child, a daughter, was born when we had been married almost 15 months. Three generations of our family are now born again Christians and members of the same church.
That result did not come about because we are really good people, or because we had good Christian training in the homes we grew up in. Though I do believe that my mother had a very positive influence on my life, and on Chris’s life after we married.
We each made commitments to God at the time of our conversion, at the time of our marriage and at the time of becoming church members. I believe the key to durable and happy relationships is in realizing that those commitments were made to God and each time that one feels frustrated and discontented, the answer to the problem will be found by looking in the mirror.
Your last few words are mesmerizing and possibly profound. It is always tantalizing to me how faith can be so ingrained. I have never been religious in a deep sense but have experienced many things in my life that draws me to what one may deem to be spiritualism….and a Godly end to life on Earth. Thank you for sharing and tweaking my pondering mind.
