The title is a double entendre. It may mean: If I am going to live a long life, I should learn to enjoy it; and/or: If I enjoy life it might last longer.
As I get older, there are things that seem more important than they ever did before. Here are five that come to mind as I contemplate this topic.
- Take a walk – often.
Walking clears the cobwebs from the brain and enables you to think more clearly. In addition, studies have shown that walking is a more effective anti-depressant than any pill on the market. - Don’t hold grudges.
Anger and bitterness corrode the health of both mind and body. Be quick to forgive; then go a step further and learn to love. - Maintain relationships.
Let family and friends know that you care about them. Be a good listener. - Develop new relationships.
Take an interest in people of a different age group, of a different background, with different interests. Stretching your mind is the best way to keep it from shriveling up. - Have a reason for living.
Your usefulness does not end when you can no longer work for a living. The value of your life is not measured in dollars and cents. Use your experience and abilities in some way to help others.
