Where have all the children gone?

I remember a time when most children were taken or sent to Sunday school. When those children grew up and became parents, many of them did not see the need of Sunday School for their children. And with each generation there is a diminishing number of children who have any contact with Biblical Christian teaching.

Why is this happening? Every human being has a void within that can only be fulfilled by a meaningful relationship with Jesus Christ. And the Holy Spirit is still calling all people everywhere.

But where is the solid food of God’s Word? The pablum that is offered by children’s Bible stories does not provide the kind of spiritual nourishment that children need to develop and grow in faith. They need to taste all that the Bible has to offer, with nothing removed, nothing added.

Where are the examples of parents, church leaders and other adults with a living faith? It was never enough to just send children to Sunday School and hope that they might learn some spiritual lessons that didn’t seem important to their parents.

Christian faith must be taught, but that isn’t enough. It must also be lived.
